At Keck Medicine of USC, we are committed to providing the best in rehabilitation care. Our aim is to help our patients make strides toward greater independence, improve quality of life and achieve optimal health.
The Inpatient Acute Rehabilitation Unit (IRU) at Keck Medicine of USC is a comprehensive program that focuses on improving the independence of patients. Through this interdisciplinary team approach, we work with patients and their families or caregivers to improve a patient’s quality of life. Our goal is to help increase functions such as mobility, activities of daily living, cognition, communication, strength and overall independence.
We’re proud of our outcomes.

What to Expect
Making progress toward greater independence through therapy is a key reason for your visit to Keck Hospital of USC’s Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit. When you are admitted and prior to leaving our program, 18 activities of daily living are evaluated by the therapists and nurses using an instrument called the Functional Independence Measure (FIM). During your stay, we want to do everything we can to ensure your experience is as positive as possible.
